Second Life is an online game played by millions of people all over the world. People log on and create life like avatars of themselves and walk around a virtual world where they can pretty much do whatever they want.
Some real world companies have already set up base inside Second Life and now fashion is set to be the next “big thing” within the game. Those avatars do need clothing after all.
Brands like American Apparel, Reebok, Adidas and Lacoste are entering the virtual world. Lacoste though is doing an online voting competition where citizens of Second Life can upload images of their avatars for a model contest.
Some players though are taking it upon themselves to design their own clothing and then there are the talented few who do it professionally and sell stuff like that in the game to people for the official currency of SL, called the Linden Dollar.

How this plays out is anybody’s guess for the world of fashion. As the game gets more popular those with the technical ability, and of course the early adopters, will get further while the ones who enter later might not be able to garner much popularity. That doesn’t mean to say you can’t just become a player of Second Life to shop around.
Who knows? In the future this may be how you decide what you want to buy in real life.

Armani has always been a favorite designer of mine. It seems the best ones always come from Italy!
